Accessing school and tertiary education in country Argentina is not as easy as jumping into your car, or mum's Prado. Many children and young people must walk, cross rivers or even ride the family donkey.....if they can get there at all.
With Covid restrictions, internet access is important for students to maintain their studies. Without access to education many young people can not continue to develop their potential and contribute to their communities, their country and the world.
The following letters from tertiary students at the Vila Atamisque Student Residential College, supported by Milonga Para Los Niños since 2016, demonstrate the importance of this initiative, managed by "Assn Presente Padrinos Escuelas Rurales" (loosely translated as \Patrons of Rural Schools), to the youth and the community of this remote region of Argentina.
"Hello, good afternoon, Sra. Lorena, how are you? Well, I am going to comment a little about the benefits and importance of the hostel, in this case for me. I am studying the last subjects to become a geography teacher at the secondary level.
This home means a lot to me. I came here for reasons of space and fast internet connection. It has provided me with many things such as space to prepare my classes, since I had to do a residency, which was very successful, thanks to this opportunity.
I am very grateful to all the team that is part of this home, very happy to be part and to share with the other students, who each have different life experience, and this gives everyone the possibility of easily accessing education and training for future development and the potential to obtain good work.
There is a lot of sacrifice made by students in rural areas who every day face their own difficulties getting to school. It also implies leaving the family, our home, which causes great sadness in us. The help that is given to us in different ways and places is of great importance, since we depend on it”.

"The hostel has a very significant and great importance, since it gives me the possibility to continue my studies and thus be able to fulfill my dreams. Continuing my studies by my own means and resources is impossible since neither my family nor I have a fixed salary, (we are without work) is hard hand, (incidentally I mention that I am a temporary worker,
To better understand, I work during summer vacations in the crops and deflowering corn, to work on this I have to move to the provinces of Entre Ríos, Córdoba or Buenos Aires. This work is of great importance and sustenance for my family but it is not enough to cover all our needs).
It is also impossible due to the bad situation that we are currently going through, and today despite the fact that the classes are virtual, the hostel gives us the possibility of following the virtual classes since in this place we have access to good connectivity, which in my place where I live or in my home the connectivity is null and scarce.
The meaningful benefits that they provide us include internet access, access to technological tools (computer, printer, etc.), economic (we save on paying rent and food), and access to a place of tranquility and comfort to allow us to study productively.

"Good afternoon. Before being accepted to the Vila Atamisque Student Residential College, I studied in Loreto a city 55 km from my house where I became a tutor and a school secretary. Since I started my career I always put effort into it, but none of this would be possible without the help of scholarships from “Presente Escuelas Rurales” that supported me from the beginning. I come from a family with few resources, and without the help that this wonderful group gives me, it would be impossible for me to continue studying, since I have many expenses to be able to study... I am and will always be grateful to them for the help they give me and many young people who want to overcome".

"Hola! Que alegría saber de ustedes!!! Es enorme la alegría de los chicos en el albergue! Aunque por Pandemia en santiago del estero aún no hay clases. Hay muchos jóvenes que se han quedado. Ya que allí estan mejor que en sus casas. Por sobre todo por el wiffi tan necesario a la hora de rendir examenes. Cómo seguimos!! Que lindo escuchar esas palabras! En estos años duros de pandemia!! Lo que sigue es a continuación hacer biblioteca , tres aulas para enseñar oficios a los jóvenes del campo que no estudien. Y sumar un baño.

Soy victor Pajon, 22 años vivo a 6 km del albergue Presente. Estoy estudiando las últimas para materias para recibirme de profesor de geografía en el nivel secundario. Este hogar significa muchísimo para mí, por cuestiones de espacio y conexión rápida acudí al mismo, el cual me ha facilitado en muchas cosas como espacio para preparar mís clases ya que me tocó hacer la residencia, el cual fue muy exitoso por lo comentado. Estoy muy agradecido con todo el equipo que forma parte de este hogar, muy contento de ser parte y por compartir con los demás compañeros, los cuales presentan cada uno tienen realidades distintas y este brinda a todos la posibilidad de acceder con facilidad a la educación y formación para el futuro desenvolvimiento en el mercado laboral. Es mucho el sacrificio que hacen los estudiantes de las zonas rurales que cada día se enfrentan a ciertas dificultades hasta llegar al lugar de estudio, también implica dejar a la familia, a nuestro hogar, el cual provoca una gran tristeza en nosotros. Es de gran importancia la ayuda que se nos brinda de distintas formas y lugares, ya que de ello dependemos.
Hola buenas tardes doña Lorena, como le va? Bueno le voy ah comentar un poco sobre los beneficios y la importancia del albergue, en este caso para mí. Nombre: Leonardo Sandiz Edad: 24 Domicilio: Totora Pampa dto Loreto Carrera: geografía Distancia del albergue hasta mí domicilio: 35 kms aprox El albergue tiene una importancia muy significativa y muy grande, ya que me brinda la posibilidad de continuar mis estudios y así poder concretar mis sueños, ya que continuar los estudios por mis propios medios y recursos es imposible ya que mí familia ni yo contamos con un sueldo fijo, (estamos sin trabajo) viene dura la mano, (de paso le comento que soy un trabajador temporario, para que mejor se entienda trabajo en las vacaciones de verano en las cosechas y deflorada de maíz, para trabajar en esto me tengo que trasladar a las provincias de Entre Ríos, Córdoba oh Buenos Aires. Este trabajo es de gran importancia y sustento para mí familia pero no alcanza a cubrir todas nuestras necesidades). Además es Imposible por la mala situación que estamos atravesando en la actualidad, y hoy a pesar de que las clases son virtuales, el albergue nos dan la posibilidad de seguir las clases virtuales ya que en este lugar tenemos acceso a una buena conectividad, cosa que en mí lugar donde vivo oh en mí domicilio la conectividad es nula y escasa. Beneficios que nos brindan: Acceso a internet Acceso a herramientas tecnológicas (computadora, impresora, etc) Económicos (nos ahorramos en pagar alquiler y la comida) Acceso a un lugar digno: tranquilidad y comodidad
buenas tardes... yo soy Karen Almeida de estación atamisqui Santiago Del Estero te cuento que actualmente estoy cursando el cuarto año de la carrera Geografía en una ciudad que queda a 12 km domicilio también estudié en loreto una ciudad a 55 km de mi casa donde me recibí de preceptora y secretaria escolar... desde que comenze con mi carrera siempre le pongo empeño pero nada de esto sería posible sin la ayuda de BECAS PRESENTES de escuelas rurales que desde el principio me apoyaron, yo provengo de una familia de escasos recursos y sin la ayuda que este grupo maravilloso me brinda me resultaría imposible seguir estudiando ya que yo para llegar al profesorado tengo muchos gastos... estoy y estaré siempre agradecida con ellos por la ayuda que nos brindan a mi y a muchos jóvenes que tienen ganas de superarse"
